Meet the Maker: Four Winds Social

Early Access Alert

Some mahjong mats you order online. Others you hold in your hands, ask the designer what inspired them, and walk out with before anyone else has seen them. On Tuesday, October 27, from 12 to 2 PM, Courtney Popelka, founder of Four Winds Social, is bringing her brand-new Drop 4 mahjong mats to Mahj House Austin. That's two full days before they go live to the public on Thursday.

Meet the maker behind Four Winds Social

Courtney designs mahjong mats that make the whole table look good, from bold florals to Art Deco geometry to cozy holiday prints. She'll be at our tables during Guided Play, so come say hello, ask her anything, and see her designs up close. There's something special about meeting the person who made the thing you'll be playing on for years.

Shop Drop 4 two days early

Drop 4 goes live online Thursday. Tuesday, you can see every new design in person, pick your favorite, and take it home that afternoon. If you've ever missed out on a sold-out mat, this is your head start.

Her Holiday mats, only in Austin at Mahj House

Courtney is also bringing her Holiday collection, and Mahj House is the only place in Austin to buy them. They make a standout gift for the mahjong player in your life, or for hosting your own holiday game night. Gift one, or keep one. We won't tell.

Quantities are limited

Courtney is bringing what she can carry, and once a design is gone, it's gone until Thursday's online drop. First come, first served, so come early if you have your eye on one.

Come play, come shop

The event runs during Guided Play, our two-hour session with an instructor on hand to help with real-game practice. It's a great fit for newer players who want a little backup at the table, and a fun excuse for anyone to stop in.

Bring a friend whose mat could use an upgrade. We'll see you at the table.
